Since early in the year, I have been doing the S.O.A.P devotion (Scripture, Observation -of passage- Application and Prayer.) So at times I will post my devotion for you. Here is todays devo, I have been going through Joshua lately, a powerful book! There is much land to conquer…
S: “When Joshua was an old man, the Lord said to him, ‘You are growing old, and much land remains to be conquered.” (Josh 13:1)
O: In this chapter, the Lord tells Joshua what land remains to be conquered, which were the regions of the Philistines, Geshurites, Canaanites, Avvites, Gebalites and all the land of the Sidonians. So there is still much to be done, though I thought they did it all! But as I remember now, that’s why the Israelites were always fighting the Philistines in Judges and in David’s time even. The Lord also commanded Joshua to divide the land east of the Jordan, giving the tribes of Reuben, Gad and half of Mannasseh to them. Then He reminds him that the tribe of Levi has no portion of land amongst the Israelites, but that the Lord is their portion.
A: I think sometimes that although we have done much- or think we have- the Lord would remind us there is much work yet to be done. Jesus’ last command, the great commission, is not finished! There are yet so many unreached people groups in the world. Let’s be thankful for the ones we have won and seen saved- but let’s not get comfortable yet, there’s more work to be done! There’s more souls to bring in- the harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are so few! Pray that the Lord of the harvest would send out labourers into His harvest field to bring them in- and while praying, go out into the field and continue his work for yourself! The great commission is not to be prayed about, but to be obeyed! Let’s GO!
P: “Oh Lord, forgive us for being slack concerning Your harvest! Help us to go out into the field and bring in the harvest of souls yet to be won- give us the fire, the strength to do so by Your Spirit, to do Your work, in Jesus’ name, amen.”
